Best Paddle Boarding Spots in the UK
One of the best things about paddle boarding in the UK is how much variety there is. Sheltered estuaries, dramatic sea cliffs, glassy lakes, and tidal rivers. You do not need to travel far to find somewhere genuinely spectacular.
Here are some of our favourite spots, from beginner-friendly flat water to more adventurous coastal routes.
Cornwall
Cornwall is probably the most popular SUP destination in the UK, and for good reason. The combination of warm-ish water (by UK standards), stunning coastline, and a strong watersports culture makes it ideal.
- Fowey Estuary: sheltered, tidal, and beautiful. Great for beginners and a fantastic way to explore the town from the water.
- Looe: calm inner harbour paddling with easy access and plenty of facilities nearby.
- Porthcurno: more exposed, but the turquoise water on a calm day is hard to beat.
Devon
Devon has both north and south coast options, with very different characters.
- Salcombe Estuary: our personal favourite and the inspiration behind the Salcombe Seeker. Sheltered, scenic, and perfect for a long paddle. The Salcombe Seeker was designed with exactly this kind of paddling in mind.
- Dartmouth: the River Dart offers miles of flat water paddling through stunning countryside.
- Croyde: on the north coast, better suited to more experienced paddlers who want to mix SUP with surf.
The Lake District
For flat water paddling, the Lake District is hard to beat. Windermere, Coniston Water, and Ullswater all offer calm conditions and incredible scenery. Check local bylaws before launching, as some lakes have restrictions on watercraft.
Scotland
Scotland is genuinely world-class for SUP if you are prepared for the conditions. The water is cold year-round, so a good wetsuit and a waterproof changing robe are non-negotiable.
- Loch Lomond: accessible, sheltered in places, and stunning on a clear day.
- Loch Ness: flat, dramatic, and you might spot something. Probably not, but still.
- The Hebrides: for experienced paddlers only, but the white sand beaches and clear water are extraordinary.
Wales
Wales is underrated for SUP. The Pembrokeshire coast in particular has some incredible sea paddling, with sea caves, arches, and wildlife including seals and dolphins.
- Milford Haven: a large sheltered waterway, great for beginners.
- Tenby: calm harbour paddling with easy beach access.
